The department of Computer Systems and Automation was established in 1970, at the initiative of the first Dean of the CMC faculty – Academician A.N. Tikhonov.

The primary direction of research and educational activity of the Department, from the very beginning, is investigation of interaction between software and hardware of computers and computer networks.

Currently, the Department researches and teaches various issues of distributed systems and modern network technologies, including Software-defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), cloud infrastructures for Big Data processing.
